The Golden Retriever was first bred as a gundog to retrieve waterfowl and upland game during the British hunting season. They were bred with soft mouths to ensure that they did not leave marks while retrieving their prey. As a general rule this breed of dog has a natural love of water. The important ones here being to ensure that the puppies do not have any hidden eye and hip problems.
