English Cocker Spaniel
The English Cocker Spaniel is a gun dog. They originated from Spain in the 14th century and by the 19th century was developed to hunt small game. There are "field" or "working" cockers and "show" cockers. They are usually, either "field", "show" or "working" cockers. They are extremely active and busy dogs. They are also good natured. They are very friendly and thrive on human companionship, wanting nothing more than to please their owners. They are ideal pets with children and generally get on well with other pets. They can however be slightly manipulative and dominant, but loyal to their companions. They are easy to train and need lots of exercise. Due to the feathering on their coats, they need regular grooming. Their lifespan is considered to be 13-14 years.
