The Afghan Hound is a very old sighthound dog breed, sighthounds are hounds that primarily hunt by speed and sight instead of scent and endurance as scent hounds do.

Its thick, fine, silky coat with a ring curl at the end of its tail distinguishes the Afghan hound. This breed acquired its unique features in the cold mountains of Afghanistan, where it was used to hunt gazelles and hares. Its local name is Tahi Spai

The Afghan hound's temperament can be reserved and solemn, but happy and clownish when playing. This breed has a reputation of having relatively slow obedience intelligence. They also have many cat like tendencies and lean towards independence. Owners should not be surprised if their Afghan hound sometimes chooses to ignore commands.
