Where Can I Buy Dental Insurance

Where Can You Buy Dental Insurance?

If you have been thinking about where to buy dental insurance you might be surprised to find there are not really a huge number of dental insurance companies that sell directly to the public. Most companies sell higher priced policies which are underwritten by just a few of the UK underwriters.

First decide that you would be happy to buy from an intermediary or would you rather purchase your insurance direct from the insurer. Many UK shoppers prefer to buy their insurance and other financial products from their grocery superstore, while more traditional folk such as myself prefer to buy from specialist insurance companies every time. The choice is always that of the individual and there is no right or wrong. It’s always the consumers’ choice. The one thing that you should be doing is spending some time shopping around to make sure that you get benefits which meet your individual needs prior to actually buying online or the phone.

Companies who sell cosmetics, groceries and online directories are not the insurer and they tend to be the intermediaries as I mentioned above. Companies like Direct Line sell their own car insurance direct to the public, Dencover Dental Insurance and AXA PPP healthcare are the dental insurer meaning you therefore buy direct from them too. Most offer a discount in one form or another. It could be an introductory price; a month’s free dental cover or even simply by giving better cover without inflating the prices. Sometimes a specialist insurer is able to provide more benefits in their plans as they take an active role in determining the underwriting criteria along with their underwriter.

You see, whatever type of insurance you want to get, it is important to find not only the best possible price for it, but also the highest level of cover for the price you pay. The highest level of cover can and often does mean getting great benefits from your policy.

So with some of the explanations now out the way, where should you begin when it comes to buying your dental insurance? Remember that not all dental plans are going to be the same. It would be tempting to see two plans and opt for the cheaper one because you think it is better value for money. In reality you might find that the more expensive one is better value, because it includes both higher claim limits and allows you to claim against a bigger variety of treatment too. The reverse can also be true though, check the benefits and decide what it is you need.

Figure out what you would ideally like to have as part of your dental insurance policy and then try looking online to see which dental insurance companies offer the closest policies to what you are looking for. The chances are you will find several possibilities, each offering different treatments that they are prepared to cover. You will want to be sure that you can pick the best one for your individual dental needs.

As you might already be able to tell, picking dental insurance in a hurry isn’t a good thing. You need time to be able to figure out whether you have the right policy and the right degree of cover that you want. Obviously the more cover you want the more you should expect to pay for it. Some dental insurers offer a variety of plans costing more as they cover different treatments, others offer the same treatments but increase the claim limits dependent on the price you elect to pay. Some plans therefore offer the consumer better deals than others. Insurance companies, third parties and aggregators are not allowed to tell you which policy is best for your needs, even when you phone them, the will advise you on the various products available, but ultimately you must decide who you will buy from and when you will buy it.

Look out for *FSA regulated companies (*Under Threshold Condition 5 (Suitability), firms must satisfy the FSA that they are fit and proper to have permission to carry on regulated activities. The FSA will take into account relevant matters including whether a firm conducts, or will conduct, its business with integrity and in compliance with proper standards) and especially ones which clearly display the benefits and exclusions. Also see if there are client testimonials and clear contact details for the company you decide to buy from. Online dental insurance buyers should always choose to buy from a website where the insurer is directly involved in some way, a clear contact phone number is visible on the insurers website and payment is made using a secure payment facility. These are signs of a company you can trust.
